something to blog about

well here we are in the land of the free (if there is such a thing -being free that is, not the mighty us of a).

it has been good so far (i think we might be closet americans!!) and we have managed to find ourselves in our own (borrowed) apartment in boston. it feels like the first time in a long time that we have had a chance to relax, which i had forgotten is a really nice feeling, and i am starting to feel good about what lies ahead for us. we went to a televised AFL game today which might have helped (all those fit aussies running around and the dulcet tones of bruce mcevaney) but either way, it feels like the UK has released me from her spell.

It was an emotional farewell though - in the last week before we left i; cried while watching the neighbours omnibus (susan lost her eyesight - very sad (nb was watching neighbours while cleaning tent (so it passes customs) was not wasting valuable time watching neighbours in last week in uk), cried when i left work (first time that has ever happened!), cried when i left our apartment, cried on my last tube trip (not really, that was rohan ;) & of course saying goodbye to friends and relatives was heatbreaking. then on the plane trip over i watched sean penn's 'into the wild' which completely tore me apart. we had some severe turbulence on the plane trip aswell - went into freefall about three times in a row so there was a bit of collective screaming and white knuckles. fun.

but since then, despite some rather average weather and fireezing temps, we have been enjoying life on the road, or, should i say, in someone elses warm and inviting apartment. speaking of which, i think dinner is ready - we have a carton of australia shiraz to go with it!

farewell friends
