life in a tree lined boulevarde

if there is one thing that argentinians can do (and there isnt there´s heaps more, like eat cheese. i reckon i have eaten about 10kgs of cheese in the last two days - its on everything- oh, and they can make shoes...beautiful leather boots...) it´s grow trees. at least here in mendoza. every single street is lined with sycamores or london plane trees (thats right isnt it mum?) or poplars. its really beautiful. you should come and see it. they can also speak a bit of english which makes life a lil easier. went on a winery tour today before the all-you-can-eat bonanza (i avoided cheese). moy bien. urgh...feel sick. must go...ains xxx

i don´t think we´re in kansas anymore...

ok, so maybe ´taking on the world´is a bit of a grand statement. maybe ´bumbling our way around´ is a more accurate description. taking a few spanish lessons before we left instead of trying to learn the language on the flight over might have been an extremely good idea. it is kind of sad how pleased we are with ourselves when we do really basic things like order two bread rolls! at least happiness comes cheap! but that was the first day. today i managed to have toast/eggs/coffee and orange juice for breakfast and rohan had a bacon and egg roll - so we are making progress. we also have been staying in a gorgeous hotel which feels very european - there is a construction site out the window, but it isnt so bad as we are not there all that much ( although we have been making the most of seistas) and they sing as they work! anyway, we are quite sad to leave as we head to the coast (Valparaiso) today.
We have spent the first part of our travels in Santiago (the capital) which has been really interesting and bloody cold! rohan has even conceded and bought a scarf! which he looks great in... the andes (6000m) surround the city and look awesome, but help create some of the worst air pollution in the world which we could see in a thick layer when we took a cable car to the top of some hill in the city. we have seen a fair bit of the city, first just walking around and then we got up the courage and caught the metro which we are guns at now.
anyway, i should sign off now.
wish us luck! hope you are all doing well.
