last days in BA

hey there,

well, we have now made it to brazil/brasil/whatever - sans/sim phrasebook for a few days which was a bit interesting. we managed to find one today and it was a HUGE relief. it is kind of exhausting being effectively illiterate and mute in unknown places!

Since we posted last we went to Uruguay. Colonia was the cutest town - the old part of town is heritage listed - we had great weather the day we were there too. Montevideo was ok, but as everyone told us - a bit like a scaled down version of BA (i discovered my spanish hadnt improved when i accidentally ordered two schnitzels for myself). Then back to BA - said goodbye to dad who was finally getting (almost the last of) his walls knocked down. I didnt really do dads place justice last time...

his apartment is in San Telmo - where all the gentry lived until a plague of yellow fever swept through and they fled to higher ground. Still, all their beautiful old homes remained and it kind of turned into a bohemian/semi -rundown area. So at dads you are greeted by a marble staircase/fancy birdcage lift - until you get to his apartment, where you are greeted by a heap of construction waste - but it is a big apartment, high ceiling, polished floorboards and the rooms that have been finished look great. it just that there is no kitchen really. anyway - muchos gracias dad for having us stay.

oh - and i stepped in dog poo - thats what you get for bragging (apparently).

i think rohan is going to do a bit about iguazu.

chao for now
ains x
